The August Egg Company issued a voluntary recall of its organic and cage-free brown eggs due to potential Salmonella contamination, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced.

Additional shipments reachedl Walmart stores across several states, including California, Washington, and Arizona, with sell-by dates extending through June 19, 2025.
Consumers are urged not to eat the recalled eggs. The CDC advises discarding them or returning them to the place of purchase. Any surfaces or utensils that may have come into contact with the eggs should be thoroughly washed with hot soapy water or cleaned in a dishwasher.
Salmonella infection can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Severe symptoms may include a fever over 102°F, persistent or bloody diarrhea, excessive vomiting, and signs of dehydration such as dizziness or dry mouth. The illness typically begins 6 hours to 6 days after exposure and may last up to a week.
While most people recover without medical treatment, the infection can be more serious in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, potentially requiring hospitalization.
Retailers and food service providers are instructed not to sell or serve the affected eggs and to sanitize any areas they may have touched.
